Two dozen baristas competed in the qualification round at Vigal Coffee for the best barista award. Seven finalists were chosen for their superior drink preparation skills. The magnificent seven did their best to wow a panel of independent judges. When the dust settled, Nathan Edwards from Cups in Palo Alto was awarded the 1999 Barista Cup plaque and a weekend away at a Carmel bed and breakfast.
