This photo was taken in Pier 21 at Fort Mason in San Francisco, California. The photo is from c. 1921 and shows the average daily amount of the military cargo that was required overseas for WWII. Cargo shipped overseas originated at points throughout the continental United States, often times requiring a long journey to port. During the war, San Francisco Port of Embarkation personnel were responsible for the logistics of moving all the cargo along.

A powder flask is a small container for gunpowder that was an essential part of shooting equipment with muzzleloading guns. Many were standardized military issue. This flask is from the 1840s.

All the remaining active duty personnel assigned to Naval Air Station Moffett Field muster for a photograph in front of Hangar Bay One. The 211 foot high historical airship hangar, completed in 1933, was once homeport to one of the Navy's largest dirigibles, the USS MACON. The airfield is scheduled to be disestablished on July 1st after 66 years in operation.
