Mr. and Mrs. Lewis lived in the cabin on the grounds of the cemetery, adjacent to the Presbyterian Church. After the death of Mary Lewis, Milton continued to live in the cabin and served as sexton of the cemetery. Upon his death, he was buried in the Mountain View Pioneer Cemetery
Mark Hopkins became a partner with Leland Stanford, Collis Potter Huntington and Charles Crocker to form the Central Pacific Railroad Company on June 27, 1861. Named "The Big Four", they made the dream of a trans-Sierra Nevada railroad a reality with the joining of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific rails at Promontory Point, Utah, on May 10, 1869.
